POF-S
Effective POF splicing with standardized optical fibres

Polymer optical fibres (POF) of different types, including microstructured fibres, fibres adapted to the inscription of Bragg gratings, fibres working within a wide spectral range, constitute a strategic development area of photonics in coming years. In accordance with the applicable scenarios they will be widely used for short-distance data transmission (up to 300 m) or low cost sensing and monitoring systems. Due to the lower melting point of polymer fibres compared to silica glass fibres and their great flexibility, cutting and splicing of this type of fibres requires other technology than in a case of standard telecom fibres. Therefore, the main task of the project is to elaborate the technology of splicing polymer fibres with silica glass fibres as well as with another polymer fibres.
