Research and elaboration of optical power splitter based on technology of microstructured fibres

Optical fibre splitters developed within the project would be applied in optical access networks, in particular in FTTH (Fibre To The Home) architecture. Optical signal splitters, which are currently in use, employ the integrated optics components and they have relatively large loss. Moreover the installation and connection of integrated optics elements with optical fibre is quite expensive, which is a serious obstacle to the dissemination of fibre access networks. The aim of the project is to develop the concept of an all-fibre optical signal splitter that will be used to divide a signal of individual segments of optical networks, and thus enabling the economical construction of all-fibre optical networks.
